Detroit Fireworks

The family is recovering today after a late night at the Detroit Ford Fireworks. It was a blast! In fact, I’m pretty sure that Jack OD’d on fun.

We were invited to attend The Parade Company Party on top of the Miller Parking Garage and from the moment we walked in we were amazed. Our jaws actually dropped. We had no idea what to expect but it was more than we could have imagined. The party was an absolute wonderland for families. There were arcade games with various prizes for the little ones and the big kids, countless carnival snacks, face painting, karaoke, ice cream stations, live music. It was stimulation overload but Jack and Hudson handled it like champs.

We started with a couple of arcade games and quickly moved to an ice cream and lemonade station. If ever Jack needed proof of my love for him he would simply have to think back to the time I was surrounded by clowns at the 2014 Ford Fireworks just so he could get a balloon animal and his face painted. (You’re welcome buddy/thanks for helping me conquer my fears.)

After some cotton candy, a snow cone and some more games, it was time to hit the dance floor. Jack’s moves are epic. I have no idea where he learned to break dance but watching him gyrate on the floor to Ke$ha was fabulous. Even Hudson was amused and ready to boogie.

The boys were rock stars the whole night. How did we manage to keep two small babes up late and avoid major meltdowns? Let’s just say “luck favors the prepared.” I had Jack take a late nap, we packed food, jammies and blankets for both boys and we brought the double stroller to offer them a place to rest when they needed it.

All our preparations were well worth the effort. Hudson fell asleep around 8:30 and didn’t wake again until well into the display. Jack’s face was priceless as the fireworks started. I think I may have looked more at the boys then I did the sky. My heart wanted to explode and I had to hold back the happy tears.

Last night was an evening that will stick with me for a long time to come. Now I have roughly 360+ days to figure out how to get an invitation for next year… and the following year… and the year after that… and so on…
