Thinking of what could have happened, my stomach is churning and I have a lump in my throat that will not go away.
Driving down Lodge, I saw traffic half a mile up coming to a stop. I looked behind me and saw that the closest car was another half mile away. With plenty of time I started to slow down to let the car behind me know what was up.
I noticed the car behind was still coming pretty fast. By the time I caught up with traffic there was nothing more I could do. I heard her car screech, saw her swerve and felt her just clip the back end of my light.
Both of my babies were sleeping in the backseat. Had she looked up a half second later, I cannot even imagine.
I kept my calm, told the driver I started slowing down way ahead of time to warn her the traffic was stopping. I asked what she was doing that she didn’t notice the traffic ahead. She claimed she was reaching for her purse and when she looked up I was there.
LIES!!!!
She was looking at her phone. There was a full 30 seconds + that she was distracted.
I took a deep breath and explained that both my children were asleep in the car. Asked her to keep a better eye on the road and exchanged insurance information.
My dad asked if I called 911. Fun little fact–Last time my car was hit, I called for an officer but was told that if the car is drivable and both parties have insurance, don’t call 911. The Detroit police department is spread too thin for things like that. 🙁 So…no I didn’t call 911.
I wanted to kick that lady in the shins. STOP TEXTING WHILE DRIVING!!! It is never worth what could happen.
NEVER!!!
With love from Detroit,
Callie

I am so glad am so glad that you and your babies are ok. I am angry with you. Too bad, you couldn’t press charges.
Thanks Jocelyn. Would have felt good to take her phone and throw it in to traffic. May have felt even better than pressing charges.
