Achy Breaky Heart

And so it begins…

with love from detroit

All strapped in his car seat and ready for a great day at school, I leaned over to give Jack a kiss goodbye. As I told him I loved him and moved in closer, he yelled “NO!” and smacked me across the face. With a devilish smirk he absolutely refused to apologize. Not even when Daddy intervened. And so… I lost it.

By “lost it” I mean I became a blubbery, inconsolable mess. I turned away so Jack wouldn’t see but my heart was broken into a billion tiny little pieces. Melodramatic? Not at all. This was the first time I have been completely rejected by my little man and it cut deep.

Of course, we could blame pregnancy for the waterworks buuuuuut I’m pretty sure I would have had a similar reaction had this happened pre pregnancy.

Stop growing up! Stay my sweet little snug-a-bug forever and always. What happened to three days ago when you spontaneously wrapped your arms around my legs to tell me “You my best friend Mommy?” (Tears came then too but those were of the happy variety.)

Never fear friends. I have the perfect way to get him back. A night filled with a few of his favorite things. There will be watermelon (oooh), bugs (ahhh), and shaving cream bath (wow)! Wish me luck.

With love from Detroit,

Callie

PS: Since I used the title “Achy Breaky Heart” I must confess that when I was 7 I had a Billy Ray Cyrus poster in my bedroom and told my parents that one day I would marry him. Happy to say, it was just a phase.
