Most Wednesdays are spoken for. They are days to be spent with Lita and Grandpa. But this week, my mom has been in Mexico visiting a sick relative and so, Wednesday was ours for the taking.
Jack woke up in a great mood. I asked him what he wanted for breakfast and with a devilish grin and wide eyes he whispered “pancakes.” Fresh out of mix I decided to treat him to the best pancakes in all of Detroit Proper and so we set off to Russell Street Deli in Eastern Market.
Not wanting to leave out baby #2 (still no name) we decided to split a stack, with a side of polish sausage and an ice cold chocolate milk to wash it all down. Heaven! Delicious, scrumdiddlyumptious Heaven!
The morning was young and so were we. Why stop at pancakes? Next stop, the Michigan Science Center. When I told Jack where we were going he started to giggle and announced “I soooo excited.” Me too little buddy. Me too.
As soon as we arrived he said “we go downstairs mommy. Play with balls.” It has been a while since we were last there but that boys memory never fails to amaze me. He leapt into the ball pit with reckless abandon, explored the water fountains with great curiosity and squealed with delight when he found the turtle, tarantula and gecko in the veterinary clinic.
He sat through 15 minutes of the Dolphin IMAX movie (a new record). But shouted throughout the film “LOOK MOMMY!” or “WHAT’S THAT MOMMY!” We need to work on theater manners.
That evening, he asked that Daddy stay and snuggle him at bedtime. While the two of them were chatting about their days I overheard Jack telling Ryan all about our adventures together. My favorite part of his retelling is that it was more than slightly exaggerated. Just a little bit of proof that boy is mine all mine.
With love from Detroit,
Callie
