All grown up

with love from detroit

What happened to those pudgy legs and the gummy smile. My baby is all grown up and is a real boy. He is expressing himself and sharing opinions like and actual human. This morning we stepped into the sunshine and, with great feeling, Jack exclaimed “What a beautiful day!”

Yesterday, I bought him a smoothie and me a coffee. When I asked for a taste of his mixed berry treat, he replied “No mommy. First you drink ALL your coffee. Then I share Jack’s smoothie.” What a stinker. Twisting my words and using them against me.

Now when we go to bed, we snuggle and talk. He tells me he loves me and I tell him he makes me smile with my heart. He tells me secrets and we giggle over the funny things he says. And every night I think the same thing… how long will we be able to do this?

Will he wake up at age 7 and suddenly be too big for bedtime chats? Because, honestly, I will still be up for it 30 years from now. Okay, just started to tear up.

Thanks for listening to my rambley ramble of a post. Happy Friday friends.

With love from Detroit,

Callie

Don’t stop those bedtime chats until he makes you. Either record or write some of them down, there will be too many to remember!

Hi Callie. I love reading your blogs. There are a few that are my favorites. As a mother with a 31 year old daughter I can honestly say that I enjoy talking with and listening to her as much as I did when she was very young. And, it is especially nice when I hear her quoting with an understanding and an unspoken thank you, something I said during a conversation we had when she was younger. Conversations I have with Niambi have taken on a whole new meaning of love and respect.
