Tonight is the Brighton High School Ten year Reunion for the 2001 and 2002 classes. Make fun of me if you must but I am one of those rare people who actually liked high school. I genuinely look forward to catching up with old friends at the reunion and have enjoyed helping to put it together.
While planning for tonight, we reminisced about “way back when” and came up with a few major differences between then and now.
- MTV still played music videos (“Total Request Live”) and I actually got excited for their release (“Making the Video.”)
- Back then all I wanted was a flip phone. Only a flip phone would do. They were soooo much cooler.
- Overalls, while still close to my heart, are no longer in my closet.
- In 2002 people were busy replacing VHS with DVDs. Now we are busy upgrading to BlueRay.
- Boones Farm, Mike’s Hard Lemonade and Sour Apple Pucker are no longer the drink of choice.
- Nowadays, Mr. Dahlberg’s look would be considered “geek chic.” He was so fashion forward. Who knew?
- I would sit by my radio and wait for a song I liked to come on, hitting record but inevitably missing the first three seconds. Thank goodness for the creation of Napster.
- A girl’s toughest choice in 2002 was black drape or no black drape. Did Alex do your portraits?
- The name Kardashian was only familiar when paired with the names Cochran and Shapiro.
- Summer Sunday Mill Pond concerts were the HOTTEST place to be (Pre teal bridge, of course.) Until that small 17 and under dance club by Best Buy came to rock our world. What was the name of that place?
I am sure there are a million more examples of how different we are today… as adults… in the real world. Yikes. Would love to hear what you remember from back then.
With love from Detroit,
Callie

Metropolis! I think that was the name…
