Time for a big boy bed

Oh milestones. How you toy with my emotions.

Monday Jack began sleeping in his very own big boy bed. As I took apart his crib, all I could think of were those first few nights he slept alone in his nursery. My, oh, my, were they painful. No, wait. Painful is not the appropriate word. They were EXCRUCIATING.

You may not agree with the “cry it out” method of parenting (what is right for one family is not always right for another) but that is what we chose to do. (This is where I ask you to leave your judgements at the door.)

The doctor warned me that Jack could cry for 45 minutes before falling asleep. I listened from the next room over, crying along with my poor baby. I felt as though my heart was being torn in two, as he wailed for 42 very long minutes.

For those looking to put their baby down using this method I offer a Warning: Do not attempt this alone. Ryan must have stopped me 1,143 times from going into the room to rescue baby Jack. Thanks to him, I endured three nights of this torture and on the fourth, he was going down like an old pro. Worth it.

It wasn’t only Jack’s rite of passage. It was kind of ours too. Our initiation into the “parenthood ain’t easy” club. Nope. It sure ain’t. But the perks make it all worthwhile.

With love from Detroit,

Callie

When he wakes up in the morning, is he still waiting for you to come get him out of bed, or does he get out of bed himself?

That is so crazy, he is not old enough for a big boy bed! Man, time flies! And I also did the “cry it out” and it took three nights before he was on his own. I agree with the don’t do it alone because I don’t know if I would of made it without Josh.
