Busy as usual.

“How have you been”

“Busy”

“Well it is better than the alternative”

Yes imaginary conversationalist. You are correct. It IS better than the alternative. “Busy” doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Take this weekend for example. We were on the go the whole time, but everything we did was by our own choosing and it was all enjoyable. Did it mean we were busy? Yes. But it was in the best possible way.

Thanks to Lita, Ryan and I were able to head out for a hot date on Friday night. Quick drink at Sugar House followed by milkshakes and fries at Mercury Bar. Que delicioso. However, the night was cut short as we had an early Saturday morning to look forward to.

We joined 5,000 riders for the 2012 Tour De Troit. The ride was nearly 30 miles but went through our neighborhood around mile 17. This is where Ryan, Jack and I left the route. Wish we could have done the whole thing but we had to head up to East Lansing for some very important tailgating.  Oh, and I had to visit the Indian Village Yard Sale. Duh.

Thanks, once again, to Lita’s babysitting services I was able to join Ryan at the MSU v. Notre Dame game. Tailgating brought us back to our college glory days but the game left something to be desired.

We stayed the night in East Lansing and slept in. It was perfection. We picked Jack up from my moms and went home to clean. Okay, so this kind of busy is not fun but the end result is enjoyable. We were even able to lay out our new, more child friendly, living room rug (more on this later.)

As any mom can tell you, if you want to keep a clean house you have to remove all children from the premises. We decided to take Jack to a playground near Trader Joe’s in Grosse Pointe. That way, we could do such much needed shopping after.

I may have made a huge mistake during our TJ shopping trip. I let Jack have his very own cart. I am fairly certain this will bite me in the rear in the future. My certainty was only validated by the temper tantrum he threw when the cart was taken away. “Sweetie, you have to WALK with the cart.” “Sweetie, look where you are going.” “No, no Jack. We don’t need four brie wheels. But thank you.”

Sunday night, and our BUSY weekend, were made complete when our friends stopped by to watch the Lions game. Ryan made the most ridiculously good pizzas which went great with the ice cream and cookies Julie and Jared brought. Jack enjoyed some play time with his main squeeze, Penelope, but had to go to bed a bit early as a consequence of not sharing (Ugh.)

All weekend, we went from one activity to the next. Sure it was exhausting at times. But if you ask me, it was better than the alternative.

With love from Detroit,

Callie

I really want to do the Tour De Troit next year. It looked like a lot of fun, but only if it doesn’t fall on Indian Village Yard Sale…that was WAY too much fun.

  2. A good post made great by a photo of Ryan and Mike shotgunning beers. Nice.
