Have you ever had an Avalon chocolate chip and sea salt cookie? Or a vegan blueberry muffin? If not, you should hop in your car and head immediately to this organic bakery located in midtown Detroit. Avalon has become a part of my routine. I drop Jack at daycare and then head off to Cass and W. Willis for my double skim latte and whatever baked treat tickles my fancy.
The above photo proves how elated I get before enjoying a meal from Avalon. What a nerd.
Last week I met with my friend Carrie for a quickie lunch. My go to has always been the Roma sandwich. Tomato, basil, vinaigrette and fresh mozzarella on the Lafayette French baguette. YUM! But Carrie’s choice turned my whole Avalon loving life upside down. She ordered the Greektown Hummus with grilled cucumber, hummus, sunflower sprouts and turkey on olive bread. Did you hear me? OLIVE BREAD!!!
Oh Avalon. You had me at ciabatta.
With love from Detroit,
Callie

We never went to the actual bakery, but bought some of their scallion dill bread from the Eastern Market. Best grilled cheese ever.
