Today I stop nursing. So, basically, today is a great day to leave me alone. Alone with Hudson so I can rock him, nurse him, take him in and say goodbye to these beautiful moments we have been able to share for nine short months.
Sure, I could continue but I think every mom knows when she is ready to quit regardless of how difficult quitting may be.
Ugh. Quitting. What a terrible word for it. I am not quitting I am just bringing this chapter to a close. I should say I’m finished nursing. Like I just ran a marathon and now I’m crossing the finish line. That sounds so much better.
Nursing is such a taboo subject. Undoubtably, there will be people who read this who think I nursed too long and other people who read this and wonder why I’m stopping so soon. Just remember, what’s right for one family is not always right for another. We are all just doing what we think is best.
I am proud of my nine months. Hudson is so perfectly plump and I did that. I look down at him with absolute love and he looks up at me just the same. I feel so grateful I am able to meet his needs this way. But… well… it’s just time.
Now, you’ll have to excuse me. I’m off to nurse my sweet little man to sleep. This will, of course, be followed by twenty minutes of crying into my pillow.
With love from Detroit,
Callie

So very sweet. I like that it is a chapter. You are writing your book with this blog, so chapter is perfect. I think it is also a celebration of a beautiful time closing. On to the next chapter!
I’m right there with ya, Callie. Just stopped nursing Claire 2 weeks ago. Bittersweet for sure. Hope all is well with the Sullivans!
TINA!!! We miss the Case family and cannot wait to hook up this summer. We can have a couple of beers and talk about all things mommy and babies. See you soon!
