Update: I woke up this morning to proof read this post and realized two things. 1. I couldn’t understand what I wrote, so you are probably lost too. and 2. Don’t mix drinking with blogging. It’s like drunk texting and never works out for anyone. Two glasses of birthday wine and I cannot seem to complete a thought. Still love my husband, but this has to go down as my worst post yet. I will leave it up as a reminder to write only when in a more present state of mind. Happy New Year 🙂
How many of you know the title of this post was stolen from a Tim McGraw song? How many of you know that both Ryan and I listen to country music when we’re feeling a bit folksy?
In fact, when we first started dating, Ryan told me how much he loved country just as much as I did (swoon.) The truth came out years later. He never really liked it he just wanted me to be his girlfriend. Well played Ryan Baby. Well played.
These are all just little tidbits that really have nothing to do with the real reason for today’s post. Today, my love turns 30. I have been lucky enough to spend twelve years with him for the first 30. But what makes me happy deep in my heart is that I get to spend the next 30 with him too. Hopefully, we will even get another 30 on top of that!
I have been thinking a lot about love lately. Michael Lewis writes about love in his book “Home Game.” He talks about the fact that love grows as you care for and are needed by another being. He is talking about falling in love with his kids but I think it applies to any type of love.
It’s so easy to think about the way your partner is loving you. In the words of Ms. Jackson (I’m nasty) “what have you done for me lately?” I am absolutely guilty of this. Not that Ryan isn’t a loving and giving husband, he is. It’s just not a healthy way to be. I have noticed lately that the more I care for and love Ryan, the more in love with him I become.
Ramble, ramble, ramble, sap, sap, sap. I know. All I am trying to say is, in the next 30 years, I will do my very best to shower you with unselfish love Ryan Baby. Happy Birthday!
With love from Detroit,
Callie
