Life as a Foursome

Holy October Batman!! I cannot believe how long it has been since my last post. I feel like I have a million things to say. Let’s start with Mr. Hudson Paul in all his glory.

Hudson is awesome. He is eating like a champion, putting on weight like a real beef cake. He is just starting to smile in response to adults making strange coo sounds and goofy faces at him. The sleep situation is hit or miss but I cannot complain. He is just a good baby. Lucky us!

After people ask about Hudson, they want to know how I’m doing. I’m good. Recovery is still a work in progress but I am getting out of the house and feel better than I have in months. I have none of the postpartum depression I had the first go around and that feels great.

I feel like this little guy has been a part of our family for a while. Jack loves him. He wakes up in the morning asking to hold his baby. When Hudson cries he softly reassures him by saying “Awwwww, it’s okay baby Hudson.  Shhhhh, it’s will be okay.” The other day, Ryan tried to make Hudson dance. Jack became very protective of him and snapped “No Daddy. He is just a little baby. He is fragile.”

It’s not all rainbows and unicorns. Jack may be loving on his brother but MAN OH MAN has he been testing Ryan and me. The first four weeks he was just livid, mostly with me. He would scream, cry, lay on the ground, throw things, hit. You name it he did it. How did I respond? I would wait until he wasn’t around and cry.

Good news is, while I know we have not seen our last tantrum, things are better. We seem to have more of a routine in place and I have even been able to sneak in some special alone time with my eldest boy.

So what have we been up to in the first six weeks of Hudson’s life? Jack sums it up nicely with “babies sleep, babies poop, babies eat and babies cry…a lot.”

With love from Detroit,

Callie

He is precious! Jack sounds like a great big brother. I hope is tantrums pass soon because that doesn’t sound fun. Claire was just starting to sleep through the night (she’s 3.5 months) and then she came down with a virus and is up every 3 hours again. Babies.
    Miss you guys!
