What a beautiful and sunny couple of days here in the city. Jack and I spent hours at the Riverfront yesterday with friends and neighbors. The kids played on the playground, rode their bikes around the carousel and created general mischief.
While watching him run around, undisturbed, I took a moment to appreciate the beauty and peacefulness of our surroundings. We were two of a dozen other people we saw that day and, to be honest, I liked it.
I know the end result of Detroit is to have a packed city but sometimes, I am grateful I got here in time to enjoy the lack of traffic, empty parking spaces and playgrounds free of chaos.
Ryan and I were at the Twelve Oaks Mall on Sunday and we took Jack to the play place. My heart began to race. There must have been 75 unruly children in that 300 square foot space. They ranged from infants to adolescents and it was just plane WILD!!!
On Monday, we drove from Detroit to Brighton during morning rush hour. No problem. We got there in a jiffy. But what amazed us were the thousands of cars in park on their way to Detroit. I would absolutely loath my morning commute if that is what I was faced with.
In the end, my wish for Detroit is LA traffic, loaded playgrounds and a parking crisis corrected by mass public transit. But for now, I will take some time and appreciate the peace and quiet our big city offers.
