Dear Michigan Winter,

Dear Michigan Winter,

I have always been a big fan. I love to ski and sled. Hot cocoa with a touch of Bailey’s may be my favorite drink of all time and I have a strong emotional bond to large knit sweaters and Smart Wool socks.

But this winter has been a tough one. Not the weather itself but the limitations of said weather with a toddler to entertain. There are only so many times we can go swimming at the YMCA or play in the Kids Corner of the Science Center (any suggestions for outings are greatly appreciated.) I need fresh air and outdoor playtime.

So I got fed up with my own complaints and with a morning high of 17 degrees,  took Jack into the cold front yard. Bundled up like Ralphie’s brother, Randy, I pulled Jack in his sled. We made snowballs (which Jack ate, gross). I taught him how to make snow angels and, most excitingly, we knocked snow off bushes with sticks (kids get their kicks so easily.)

Every time I thought he might be too cold, I asked if he wanted to come inside. “No, I want to stay in snow.” We were out for so long I had to bribe him indoors. “Jack, you want to go inside for some hot cocoa?”

“YES!”

with love from detroit Maybe not my proudest parenting moment but mama was cold.

I love this! How many great memories do we have of playing in the snow?! Although I have to say we did not have the killer fur hoods…so stylish!
