Detroit Jazz Festival

I will admit, jazz and I do not have the best history. Years ago, Ryan took me to a famous club in NYC. Our seats were fantastic and I’m sure the music was fine but almost as soon as we sat down we both came down with something and were frantically hailing a cab to high tail it out of there. Haven’t had the stomach for Jazz ever since (pun intended. Wacka, wacka, wacka.)

Even with this tainted past, today, after Ryan’s nap (that’s right… I said Ryan… not Jack), I suggested we head down to the Detroit Jazz Festival. Ryan was surprised. Jack was enthusiastic (I just think he wanted to leave the house.) And I had been cleaning all day and was in desperate need of some fun.

The festival runs from Hart Plaza to Campus Martius. When we arrived, Wynton Marsalis was on the main stage. Jack began dancing and with a big toothy grin asked “hear it Mommy?”

What a beautiful way to reunite with jazz. If you haven’t been yet, no worries. The festival is scheduled through Monday.

With love from Detroit,

Callie

Callie, I just love reading about and seeing all your photos of all the wonderful activities you guys attend in Detroit. It’s inspiring and I always look forward to your next entry! You are creating a history book of Jack growing up. What a wonderful idea. One day you can transfer it to a book and he will have it forever!
