“Not your ordinary list”…Family style

Positive Detroit posted a list of the the top things they would like to see in the city. I enjoyed the list so much, it has inspired me to put a family spin on it.

Here is what I would like to see in the city:

  • A store that has all things child related. A place with quality toys, clothes, diapers, books and new mommy essentials. You name it, I want it.
  • The Detroit Science Center/Children’s Museum. Enough said.
  • Jungle Java. I have never been to one of these but I hear they are awesome. It is an indoor play area and a cafe. WHAT! That sounds like a little piece of perfection. Let’s get one.
  • Organized youth sports in the city proper. There is plenty of space for fields and Belle Isle has beautiful space that already exists. Let’s get the kids up and running.
  • A Young Rembrandts art studio or something similar. A place where young children can take art classes, learn about artists and explore their creative side.
  • This is a big one. I would like to see more playgrounds and green space. But here is the catch. I want there to be rules. Not only that, I want the rules to be enforced. In NY the rules state simply that an adult is not allowed in the play area unless accompanied by a child. If you ask me, this is a perfect rule.
  • Meetup groups within the city. They are all over Metro Detroit. Moms and Dads get together and take field trips to museums, parks and zoos with their little ones. Like a more official play date. Once everyone is familiar, you can hold Meetups in your home. Great way to socialize kids and become more active in the community.

If these things already exist, please fill me in. I would love to support businesses that support family life in Detroit. Parents, if you think of anything else, let me know. What do you wish we had in the city?

With love from Detroit,

Callie
