The Detroit Institute of Arts had a new member orientation on Friday night. We have been members since April, but after a failed attempt at bringing Jack, we had not had a chance to go back (sans toddler.)
Friday was our night. Babysitter, check. Cute dress, check. Studly husband, check, check and check. We went out for wild and crazy night at the DIA lecture hall.
Wait. What?
We sat in the lecture and then were guided towards hors d’oeuvres. After, we were told, docents would guide us through the newest exhibit. Now…listen. I enjoyed the lecture and love art as much as the next lady but I HAD A SITTER.
I suggested to Ryan we do a quick self guided tour and skip out early for dinner and a drink. Ryan was thinking the same thing. What can I say? The guy just gets me.
We were off to the Atlas Global Bistro, one of my favorite restaurants in Detroit. We had dinner and later met up with a couple we met at the DIA orientation. It was after a drink or two that they admitted they overheard our plans to “skip out early” and knew we were their kind of people.
Turns out, they were our kind of people too. Both artists, both former New Yorkers, both passionate about Detroit, and both didn’t take anything too seriously. I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. I just love meeting new friends throughout the city.
With love from Detroit,
Callie

The first two pics bring back memories of an elegant rehearsal dinner we attended a few years back. Sirius 🙂
