When it comes to entertaining Jack, planning ahead is everything. And so, I have become obsessed with the site Play at Home Mom. It was there that I found the “Redneck Waterbed” or as we called it, the BLOB. One folded over tarp and a roll of duct tape was all we needed to keep cool in the near 100 degree temp.
Jack was a little weary of the BLOB at first but as soon as he flopped on there was no turning back. Ryan and I got in on the fun too. The tarp made for a great slip and slide and the cold water inside felt amazing.
A few things I will keep in mind for next time
- A 10’x25′ tarp is a bit excessive (10’x10′ would have been just fine)
- Get two rolls of duct tape (Ryan and I had to do an emergency tape hunt throughout the house)
- Fold the edges once or twice before taping
Great way to beat the heat this summer. Let me know if you give it a try.
With love from Detroit,
Callie

Love it! Wish we would have been able to come and enjoy it with you! The bump would have loved it!
Remind me to take the makings for a Blob to the cottage. This could be fun when he and Eve have had enough of the lake.
Amazing idea!
Can multiple mid weight adults bounce around on this thing on a roof top in manhattan?!
Rooftop in Manhattan = probably not reliable. Shore house in NJ = perfection.
very cool toy!! Jack – you are a lucky boy. What a blast!!!
I am heading out tonight to get the makings for my own BLOB this weekend! I can’t wait to see my neighbors and their kids having a blast on it!! What great fun!
Thanks Ellin. Ryan told me all the nice things you said. Appreciate the support and hope all is well in NYC.
