Motown Winter Blast was last weekend and we made sure to take advantage. Jack rode the carousel and played in the snow by the ice sculptures. Meanwhile, Mommy and Daddy stuffed their faces with carnival food. This includes fresh squeezed lemonade, chili cheese fries, corn dogs and cocoa.
To be fair, the cocoa wasn’t technically from Winter Blast. For a quick warm up we stepped inside the Roasting Plant, Detroit’s newest and most technologically advanced cafe. Jack sat entranced by the machinery. (Side Note: I get this feeling that he will grow up to be an engineer of some kind. He likes to build things and can stay focused on activities that involve machinery. Getting him to stay focused is not an easy task. Then again, he is two, so I may want to wait a year or so before I start pushing careers on him.)

We watched them roast the beans like kernels in a popcorn popper. Then, POOF, send them through the tube to be with the rest of their blend. When that blend was ordered, POOF, the appropriate number of newly roasted beans were sent to be brewed for the freshest cup of coffee this side of Mt. Brighton.
No coffee for us this time. We ordered hot cocoa. But even that was a special experience. The milk was freshly steamed and since one was for a toddler they made a point of making it “not too hot.” What service!

After our warm up it was back to Winter Blast. Jack danced in the music tents and begged to ride more rides that he was too little for. Ready for a nap, we drove back home to have a game night with friends and call it an early evening. (That’s right, we are those people who spend their Saturdays playing board games and catching up on sleep. And I love it!)
With love from Detroit,
Callie

I love Jack’s say cheese smile.
Especially when that smile is accompanied by a cocoa mustache.
