I’ll be loving you (forever)

Sitting here, listening to my iTunes, I realize I have not been 100% honest with all of you. You should know more about the author of your all time favorite blog. So, here it  is. One of my deepest, darkest secrets.

I love the New Kids On the Block. Joey, Jordan, Danny, Jonathan and Donnie. Some more than others  (Donnie, Donnie, Donnie.)

Wow. Feels so good to finally get that out in the open. But let me clarify. I don’t love them like I want to go on the NKOTB cruise (didn’t make that up, it exists.) I love them just enough that when I heard they were reuniting on the Today Show, I planned on calling in sick to work to stand out in the rain and witness that historical moment. Then our friend, Erdel, told me the night before the performance that girls were already camped out and I wouldn’t have much luck getting in. Bummer. So I DVR’d it instead.

I am pretty sure my love for NKOTB is 78% of the reason why I believe ‘Band of Brothers’ is the greatest mini series of all time. And although I refuse to watch any of the ‘Saw’ movies, I strongly feel Donnie Wahlberg is the most under appreciated actor of our generation. There, I said it.

Last year, I gave my girlfriends, Brittney and Ashley New Kids tickets for Christmas. They had no choice but to join me on a Chicago road trip to relive our youth. (Perhaps one of the more selfish gifts I have ever given.) The concert was AMAZING. We screamed like a bunch of teenagers and dressed in our best early 90’s apparel, crimped hair and all. (side note: we were the only ones who showed up “in costume.” Oops.)

When I was little, I had all the merchandise. There were the trading cards, the sleeping bag, pillow case, buttons, posters (Donnie hung on the ceiling above my bed), T-shirts and the Joey doll. I was so jealous of my friend Raina’s Donnie doll, even if he only had one leg. No worries. We made the best of the situation by putting him in a gold robe and making him a Barbie gigolo.

Back to my Donnie poster. My older brothers were, well, older brothers but the most unforgivable act came when my brother Andy defaced Donnie and tore my other posters into teeny tiny pieces. I am sure I did something awful but does anyone ever deserve that kind of retaliation? Barbaric.

In middle school and high school, well after their fall from fame, my friend Colleen and I would watch their concert videos and memorize the choreography. In 2008, when Colleen got married, we pulled out those dance skills and surely impressed all the other guests with our killer moves.

I understand that not everyone will appreciate this post. But here it is. The truth. Do with it what you will. All I know is that Joey said “Please don’t go girl” and I knew I couldn’t “ruin his whole world.” So I decided “to stay” and will “never ever go away.”

With love from Detroit,

Callie

I made up for the poster by going to a NKOTB concert a couple years ago. Snuck down to the front row. Even touched one of them.

I love this and I still love NKOTB too!

I don’t think you had to twist my arm very much to go to the concert…Jordan was waiting for me!

That picture is priceless and we sure do mean business! Don’t mess with us when NKOTB is playing! haha

  5. Britt says:

True story. I screamed like a little girl at the concert.. surprising myself and everyone involved. At one point I was so overwhelmed I just sat in silence. Still have the footage. Best Christmas gift EVER! Thanks again Callie.

ps. I’d love to see a pic of this Barbie gigolo you speak of..
