Why do I love Eastern Market? Sure it is a great source for fresh, organic, grass fed foods but there are so many more reasons.
I love that when I go, I run into, at the very least, one person I know. This reminds me that while Detroit is a big city, it often has that warm, small town feel.
I also love the plants. Now, if there were something worse than a black thumb, that’s what I would be. But for some reason, the sea of flowers gives me hope that my inner gardener still lies within.
Because I kill all forms vegetation, I typically opt for fresh cut flowers. Their fate has already been sealed. So, it makes me feel less guilty when their time comes. The flowers and bouquets are so dang pretty, I can’t help but leave with one. The additional benefit is that I feel very European walking around with a bouquet and a baguette peaking out from my straw tote. Ooh la la.
Okay, who am I kidding? Food really is one of the main draws for me. Eastern Market offers my favorite type of meal. The kind where you just sample and sample and sample until you are full. No need to put all your eggs into one basket, you can have a little bit of everything. Who doesn’t love that?
Keeping in theme with “a little bit of everything,” I would have to say people watching may be at the top of my Eastern Market lover list. The mix of people from all over is exactly what I love most about this city. There is no place or time where it is better illustrated than on Saturdays at the market.
So many reasons to love Eastern Market but The fact that Jack is going to grow up with all of this as his “normal” makes me so flippin giddy. That’s right my friends. I said it, “flippin giddy.”
With love from Detroit,
Callie
