Earlier this Fall, my friend Frankie and I attended the Polish the Jewel luncheon on Belle Isle. During the silent auction we decided to bid on a 20 person tour of the Parade Company. The idea was that we could take the neighborhood kids to see all the floats from the Thanksgiving Day Parade.
September, October and November passed us by and we forgot all about our silent auction victory. Oops. Last Tuesday, I got a phone call from Allison at the Parade Company to confirm our tour numbers. Oops again. Frankie and I quickly sent out a formal invite (aka, put it up on Facebook) and, lucky us, we ended up with a great group.
The warehouse is nothing special. Just an old, broken down, cold building. But the treasures inside are phenomenal. It’s like a crayon box exploded in there. And not a measly 8 pack of crayons. One of those HUGE 120 count packs with the sharpener on the back.
Jack and the other kids wanted to climb, run and explore. The warehouse allowed plenty of space for roaming. I appreciated that many of the figures were recognizable to the kids. Helped them stay interested as the adults learned about engineering and history of the parade.
Happy so many could make it out on such short notice. This was a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Now I leave you with a shot of Jack and Penelope. He ran up to her and said “hold Jack’s hand Penelope.” Then proceeded to show her around the warehouse.
Oh, young love.
With love from Detroit,
Callie
