Valentine’s Day in Detroit

With Love From Detroit

Are you in love (or strong like) and want something special to do on Valentine’s day? Looking to spend your evening in Detroit? Here are a few ideas:

  1. Detroit Loves Cinema is an Oscar shorts viewing party held at the DIA and put on by Detroit Passport to the Arts (DP2A). This event is your chance walk the red carpet in your best Hollywood attire. Not sure what to wear, check out pictures from last year’s event.
  2. The Parade Company is offering special Private Tours of the studio. Each Tour includes a bottle of champagne, box of chocolates, flowers, beads, souvenir photo and more! The cost is $100 for two people. All funds go back to helping put on some of Detroit’s most cherished traditions, America’s Thanksgiving Parade and the Target Fireworks.” For more information or to purchase tickets call (313)923-8368.
  3. The Lion King is playing at the Detroit Opera House. Take your whole family or just your significant other. This is an amazing show and it is not just for kids.
  4. Update: A reader just brought a fantastic event to my attention. There will be a benefit for Clark Park on Valentine’s Day. Ice skating, beverages and karaoke all for a donation of $10. Vendors like the Mac Shack and Sister Pie will also be at the event. You had me at “Karaoke.”

Still not sure how to spend St. Valentine’s Day? The city is full of great restaurants. Make a reservation. The traditional dinner and a movie date or just a surprise love note left on the bathroom mirror are always a great move.

  1. There is a benefit for Clark Park, a great, often overlooked park in Southwest Detroit.

Thanks. I will have to update the page with this event info. If we didn’t already have plans, this is 100% where we would be. Great cause and karaoke is pretty much our favorite.

Great ideas – I still haven’t seen the Lion King. Not sure what the hubby and I are doing for Valentine’s Day… any thoughts on cheaper VDay date options?

@loveinthed Check out the updated list. #4 was suggested by another reader and sounds great. Not sure if the cost is $10 per person or couple but it should be a fun event.
